National Museum of Wildlife Art volunteers are vital assets to ALL museum activities. From
curatorial assistance to educational projects, from docent tours to behind the scene efforts like mass mailings,
our volunteers provide time, creativity and a love of art and museums.
Volunteer and Docent Opportunities
There are several areas in which museum volunteers make their mark.
Docent and Youth Education: Conduct at least 10 tours per year, participate in the summer daily tours, assist the curator of education with youth tours and programs.
Special Events: Assist with museum openings, community events and open houses, adult programs and the Western Visions Miniature Show and Sale.
Administration: Assist department heads with projects and programs, help with mailings and help conduct market research.
Museum Shop: Assist with sales, inventory control, merchandising.
Library and Archives: Organize and maintain library materials and archives.
Gallery Attending: Spend time in galleries as a both a monitor and a resource.
Curatorial: Assists curatorial and registrar department with collection management and conservation.
Web Site editing: It is our goal to continually update and improve our website. To assist in this effort, we are asking for volunteers to provide their editorial feedback.
To volunteer at the National Museum of Wildlife Art one must attend monthly volunteer meetings, training sessions and also become a museum member. Volunteers are asked
to donate at least 25 hours per year.
The more intensive docent training requires completion of a six-month training program and continual self-study. Docents are asked to give at least 10 self-designed tours per year.
