Talk with the Animals April 10, 2012 | By Shawn Meisl
“Talk with the animals,” said Dr. Doolittle. So I do. Think me funny, but there’s wildlife in the galleries that speak to me as well. They have something to tell me that is mysterious, funny, poignant, outrageous, frightening. Occasionally, one looks like my cousin, with his typical story-telling expression. So I settle in for a few minutes to listen.
Nature speaks, with voices both calming and urgent. Whether it’s the thrumming of hooves, the whisper of wings, or the gaze of a chimpanzee, the story is most definitely compelling. Can you hear it?
P.S. If you are too young to remember the story of Dr. Doolittle, come visit me at the Museum. We’ll talk.
