Clymer Studio Sketchbook August 21, 2012  |  By Margaret Hanson

I noticed the Clymer Studio Sketchbook for the first time. The sketchbook is inconspicuously located in the Clymer Studio and invites visitors to make thumbnail sketches. I decided to take a quick break and do a couple of thumbnail sketches myself.

The drawings on the right are what I came up with. I won’t be using my sketches as plans for paintings, as artist John Clymer might have, but I’m glad I took the time to do them. As I looked for things to sketch, I found myself noticing details and objects that had previously blended into the studio. I also had fun looking at what other people sketched, and trying to find the objects they chose. Looking through, and adding to the Clymer Studio Sketchbook helped me to view the exhibit from a new perspective.

Next time you visit the Museum, be sure to stop by the Clymer Studio and make a few thumbnail sketches!
