Visiting the Studio of John Mortensen August 16, 2012 | By Jill Callahan
I recently had the opportunity to visit the studio of John Mortensen, Western Visions artist. Nestled along Fish Creek in Wilson, the space was overflowing with his work and sources of inspiration. Mortensen epitomizes Western hopsitality, as he carefully showed us his favorite works and explained about his process.
He is a man of many talents, creating everything from sculpture to furniture to children’s books. I left with Mortensen’s 2012 Western Vision submissions, which you are sure to enjoy: “Sunshine”, a bronze colt, and a very whimsical sketch of moose celebrating the Museum’s 25th Anniversary.
