Dramatic Photographs October 15, 2012  |  By Jim McNutt

Take a look at photographer Jimmy Chin’s image of a climber on “Thank God Ledge” on Yosemite’s Half Dome. This is only one of the astounding pictures that are part of National Geographic Greatest Photographs of the American West, an exhibition opening at ten museums across the United States on October 27, 2012.

Dramatic photographs such as this one always make me think, “and where is the photographer?” Sometimes the answer is “hanging out in space”! That is certainly the appearance in this case. You can learn more about Jimmy Chin and other great photographers at www.photographsofthewest.org.
