Mix’d Media: Legends of Mythology & Love February 19, 2013 | By Amy Goicoechea
Dionysus & Amethystos, Adonis & Aphrodite, Osiris & Isis: All are legends of mythology and love. Arthur Wardell’s painting, The Enchantress, depicts Amethystos, the tragic lover. This painting currently in our Human/Nature exhibit, inspired last week’s Valentine’s Day Mix’d Media event at the Museum.
The legend of Dionysus & Amethystos inspired us to offer Greek refreshments, and drape the evening in Dionysian purple. In addition to mythology, we explored the Western fascination with divination. Who isn’t interested in the future of their love life? Crystal and tarot readers, Daria and Teri Gilfilen, indulged guests in this desire to see the future. Participants also designed their own wine bottle labels with images of Apollo, Artemis, Eros, and others from the Greek pantheon. Many lovely Valentines were made over the course of the evening while DJ Era spun romantic tunes.
We are grateful to Rush Jenkins and Klaus Bear of WRJ Design, for their expert guidance. We also thank Sue Bullock and Jackson Hole Flower Company for the gorgeous roses. The raffle items were donated by WRJ Design, Thoenig’s Fine Jewelry, Walt Gerald, The Boardroom of Jackson Hole, and JH Flower Company.
