Sneak Peek: Darwin’s Legacy October 8, 2013 | By Admin
Please join us in the Gilcrease and Changing Visions Galleries this Friday, October 11 at 11:30 am for a Sneak Peek program introducing a new exhibition; Darwin’s Legacy.
Darwin’s Legacy: The Evolution of Wildlife Art explores the relationship between science and art. Darwin’s groundbreaking work on the evolution of species greatly influenced generations of wildlife artists. European artists such as Joseph Wolf and Bruno Liljefors went outside, observed wildlife in their natural habitats, and composed images illustrating many of Darwin’s ideas. Connections between scientists and artists have continued to this day. In fact, the exhibit features three contemporary wildlife artists, Laney, Lars Jonsson, and Bart Walter, whose work reveals animal behavior in naturalistic ways.
Laney, a wildlife painter from Crowheart, Wyoming, will lead the Sneak Peek program and share her love of both wildlife and science.
We are grateful to Lisa and David Carlin for their generous support of our Sneak Peek programs.
