Festival of Light this Sunday January 30, 2014 | By Becky Kimmel
Join us on this Sunday to celebrate the Festival of Light from 11 am to 5 pm. This is a free First Sundays event.
Enjoy this first-ever event in the valley and stay through the afternoon to celebrate the alpenglow on the belly of Sleeping Indian (Sheep Mountain.)
The Festival of Light features collaborating local organizations, celebrating the return of light to the valley on Groundhog Day. The Festival of Light promotes wellness, community spirit, art, music, and education about the ecology of hibernating animals. Activities include children’s educational art projects, yoga, Tai Chi/Qigong, a wellness speaker, a Oneness Meditation and a Native American drumming and sound bowl ceremony and Musicians. The Mayor will be there to pronounce whether or not the groundhog has seen its shadow. Children will be creating puppets and making shadow art as well as playing drums and shakers. Poetry and performance art has been created especially for this event. The Festival of Light provides a needed respite from the dark winter months and a celebration to remind us that spring is on its way.
