Daniel Smith was born in Minnesota and now resides in Bozeman, Montana. One of the most rewarding and inspiring elements of his work is the fieldwork. It is the genesis of all of his paintings. He is passionate about his subjects and travels frequently seeking artistic inspiration. Daniel has won numerous awards from several museums including the National Museum of Wildlife Art, National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, the Eiteljorg Museum, and the Autry National Center. He was the featured artist of the 2011 Western Visions and received the 2011 and 2009 People's Choice Award at the National Museum of Wildlife Art.
My chosen career as a wildlife artist is a lifetime commitment. As I mature, my cumulative knowledge increases and some aspects of my work become easier, however, many challenges remain. I have created a lot of paintings over thirty plus years and I am consistently striving to come up with fresh ideas that will continue to inspire my creativity and fuel my enthusiasm. I have found the best remedy is spending time in the field doing research and continuing my education of everything wild. I have much to learn. I am truly blessed to call this my life's work.
