School Programs

We’re excited to offer programs for grades K-12.

School-aged children and accompanying adults are admitted free of charge when participating in our school education programs unless otherwise noted in the course description. Each Teton County educator participating in our program will receive a complimentary museum membership.

Programs by Grade Level

Animal Tracks

Students will match four animals from the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem with
images of their tracks. They will then use their fingerprints to create a tracking story of their own.

Grades: Pre-K-K | Length: 30 Minutes

Weather Watching

Students use five paintings to explore the connections between weather, color, and emotions, then create their own weather scene using drawings and cotton balls.

Grades: K-2 | Length: 45 Minutes

Bison and Plains Peoples

Students will use works from the collection to explore the bison’s relationship with Indigenous tribes of the Great Plains: from an essential cultural resource, to something lost, to something regained. They will then create a piece of artwork reflecting on the importance of the bison.

Grades: 2-4 | Length: 1 Hour

Animal Adaptations

Students will use three or more paintings to explore what adaptations are and how they help animals survive. Then, design a creature that is adapted to a special environment.

Grades: 3-5 | Length: 1 Hour

Food Chains

Students will explore food chains, their various components, and their depiction in art. They’ll create a story to describe the food chain they see in a painting, then draw their own.

Grades: 3-5 | Length: 45 Minutes

Conservation

Students will learn the historical impact of art on the conservation of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem before exploring conservation-related works in small groups. Then, they’ll design a piece of conservation artwork.

Grades: 6-8 | Length: 1 Hour

The Art of Seeing

Students will practice close observation and interrogate cultural preferences towards charismatic megafauna. Then, they’ll watch an episode of our Bisoncast series to further investigate themes of wildlife beauty and value. Finally, they’ll create a piece of art about something that is often overlooked.

Grades: 9-12 | Length: 1.5 Hours
