Mythics of the West
January 11, 2025 - March 2, 2025
In the words of student curators Camille Bushnell, Marieli Flores Cabrera, Sadie Mae Laprade, and Ellison Wild.
Mythics of the West is an exploration of animals and culture. The combining of animals is present in multiple cultures and knowing this we pulled from the idea of the jackalope within Western cultures and of alebrijes from Mexican culture. With this theme, we set off to create a group of wacky animals to curate a mythical world. On our whimsical journey of combination, we asked Jackson Hole High School students to create their own animals by combining two animals from the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Those who participated created paintings and sculptures capturing the magic of alebrijes and of our very own ecosystem, encouraging viewers to see our local story of weirdness and whimsy.
This Museum is dedicated to exhibiting student artwork and amplifying young voices in our community. Thank you to the student curators and artists from Jackson Hole High School who made this exhibit possible.
Generously sponsored by the Lea Charitable Trust.
