National Museum of Wildlife Art to Host “Perspectives Over Pizza + Pinot” a Free Community Exhibition Opening Event on November 3, 2023

October 27, 2023

The National Museum of Wildlife Art (NMWA) will host a free community opening event from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2023, to celebrate the opening of the Benjamin Mkapa African Wildlife Photography Awards exhibition (which officially opens to the public on Saturday, November 4). The Mkapa Awards are presented in partnership with and traveled by the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and Nature’s Best Photography (NBP). NMWA also recently opened Transformations: Wildlife in Inuit Art and Culture, which will also be on view for attendees. This exciting opening event is entitled “Perspectives Over Pizza + Pinot.”

Attendees can enjoy free pizza from Pinky G’s and complimentary Pinot Noir or Pinot Grigio while exploring NMWA’s two new winter exhibitions–both of which offer diverse perspectives. Weather permitting, the food and beverages will be served outside at the Museum entrance, with a food truck from Pinky G’s and space heaters available. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly for this portion of the event. Live music will be provided outside by Chanman. Pizza and wine will be available for the first 300 attendees.

An exhibition scavenger hunt with kid-friendly and adult versions will be available in the galleries. The first 150 participants can win a fun piece of Museum swag. Kaddu Sebunya, Chief Executive Officer of the African Wildlife Foundation, who was integral in founding this photography competition and the resulting traveling exhibition, will also be in attendance at the event.

In addition to the community opening event on the evening of November 3, NMWA will also host an Exhibition Sneak Peek at 11:30 a.m., and an Exclusive Members Meet and Greet at 4 p.m. on Friday. During the Sneak Peek, Sebunya will give attendees a first look at this exciting exhibition, and background on how the award winners were selected. Jackson-based photographer Peter Mangolds is featured in the exhibition and will be in attendance as a special guest, providing insight into his piece in the exhibit. Mangolds will also attend “Perspectives Over Pizza + Pinot.”

Schedule of Exhibition Opening Events:

11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Exhibition Sneak Peek
4 – 5 p.m. Exclusive Members Meet & Greet with Sebunya
