In 1991, Doris Clymer and the Clymer family donated the contents of John Clymer’s Jackson Hole studio to the Museum. This installation of the John Clymer studio includes his reference books, studio props, costumes, and approximately 200 artifacts collected during his lifetime.

This recreation of John Clymer's studio includes his art supplies as well as the many artifacts he collected during his lifetime.
Clymer's studio consisted of hundreds of reference books, studio props, and costumes.
John Clymer began as an illustrator and later switched his focus to painting historical scenes and events that occurred on the American frontier.
John Clymer said that he always tried to take the viewer of his art “to an actual place and make them feel that they were really there.”

Full Circle: An Exhibition of Community Creation, Curation, and Collaboration

Through September 29, 2024

This exhibition invites the community to be inspired by or re-interpret one of four works from NMWA’s permanent collection. Not only will the exhibition be comprised of works created by community members–it will also be curated by the community. The pieces selected from the submissions by a team of community curators will be displayed in the Wapiti Gallery alongside the inspiration prompt pieces from the permanent collection during the summer and fall of 2024.
